This piece from my “Beautiful Accidents” collection was created from the palette of my painting “When Nobody Else Would Love Me (I Had To Learn To Love Myself).” We have a lot of time on our hands right now and that self-love is as important as ever for maintaining both physical and mental health through these turbulent times. Stay safe and keep that love alive. If it hasn’t been, perhaps this is your opportunity to bring it to life. Sending love.

Close up view of “When Nobody Else Would Love Me (I Had To Learn To Love Myself)” behind the scenes. It’s difficult to convey the level of detail without seeing it in person, but this shot certainly helps. It’s often difficult to see the work we put in from the outside, but it’s still important to do that work for ourselves. Over time, that little bit of work each day really starts to add up. Life and self-love really are a marathon and not a sprint. Do the work and the rewards will follow. In fact, learn to see the work as the reward and you’ll learn to love it…and yourself in the process.

I’ve really enjoyed this color scheme and I think it is one of the most powerful. Some of these colors are of equal brilliance or intensity which results in some interesting optical effects. The color red is the color of physical energy, passion, courage, power, will, and desire. The Root Chakra is stable and grounding. Red is powerfully linked to our most primitive physical and emotional needs of survival and self preservation. Red symbolizes energy, action, confidence, courage, and change. Green is the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. It is also the Heart Chakra and thus the color of love. Of course there are some variations and extensions of these colors in this painting, but they form a strong foundation and base. As complementary colors, working in conjunction with one another, they create balance.

“King Nothing And The Discovery Of The Lost Venus (For SAMO).” Acrylic and aerosol on panel. 40in x 25in. Original and prints available. Message me for inquiries.

“King Nothing And The Discovery Of The Lost Venus (For SAMO)” is a love story and homage to Basquiat, as well as a tribute to the many historical paintings of Venus that preceded it and the many that will come after it. Can you spot the crown? I was recently asked to describe my work, to which I responded…“Imagine the love child of van Gogh and Basquiat.”
