“As The Caged Bird Sings” is dedicated to my best friend and muse, Deanne Hastings, who tragically went missing in 2015 and has yet to be found. It is suspected that she was murdered but there has been no closure to date. Deanne once asked me to do a huge painting with a giant pair of wings. This is my tribute to her.

Deanne always called me her “Wings” and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. I just wish I could have there for her this last time when she really needed me most. I could sense the call was going to come, but it never did, and part of me knew why. I’ve always felt that I failed her by not being there that last time, though I wanted to be and would have been. I think one of the reasons I work so hard is because of Deanne. I always tried so hard to impress her and make her proud. The last time I saw her, she told me she was. I will forever do whatever I can to keep her spirit alive through my creations. She is now my “Wings” and my angel. I love you Deanne.

“Regenaissance (Polyversikube)” is a nine canvas polyptych conceptually inspired by the principle elements of fractals, the Golden Ratio, and a Rubik’s Cube. The name “Regenaissance” is an abstract composite derived from the words Renaissance (meaning “rebirth”) and Genesis (meaning “the beginning”). Presented in a 3 x 3 structural format, each of the nine components can be moved, rotated, and rearranged so that any side of any element can connect to any side of any of the other eight pieces. The result of the calculated configurations is a broad and almost limitless spectrum of orientations and variations with which to play; 95,126,814,720 to be exact.

This painting is also the paintings I was working on the very last time I saw my best friend and muse, Deanne Hastings, before she disappeared in 2015. It is suspected she was murdered but there has been no closure to date. I don’t often post photos of her because I don’t have many. I preferred to just enjoy my time with her.

I created “On The Broken Road Between Reality And Truth” when I discovered that my beloved muse, Deanne Hastings, had been found after being declared a missing person for several days during her trip home back around 2010. This painting contains pieces of a letter I wrote her (reflecting upon my thoughts and what I wanted to say to her at that time) as well as her earrings and some cloth she had left me the last time I had seen her. We all lose our way at one point or another. Keep your eyes open for the spark that will illuminate your path On The Broken Road Between Reality And Truth-

Tragically, Deanne went missing again in 2015 and has yet to be found. It is suspected that she was murdered but there has been no closure to date.

I will forever do whatever I can to keep her spirit alive through my creations. She is now my “Wings” and my angel. I love you Deanne.

Deanne inspired a number of my my best and most personal paintings. I keep reminders of her in my studio, including the last postcard from a tribute exhibition I did for her in 2010 that portrays the very first painting she ever inspired, “Midnight Dancer (Take Me Away).” I also have her handprints from her last visit, which she placed on my “10 Year Floor Canvas,” framed and always within view. I will never part with those. The remainder of the paintings she inspired were sent to her family for her children to one day have…happy and beautiful memories of their mother.

Other paintings inspired by Deanne:
Fractured Realities And Dreams Brought To Light
Getting Back To Where I’ve Never Been (Coeurd’aleuer)
You Called Out For Me And So I Came To You (The Dreamer And The Night Terrors)
If I Could Steal Your Pain
As The Caged Bird Sings
Chasing The Gate (Searching For Deanne)
Beneath The Wings Of Free Swan (Deanne’s Song)

Commencing upon the precipice of homelessness, “The Boy In The Box” follows the rigid geometric structuring of the “The Up-Side Of Down” and represents the perpetual quest for personal freedom and breaking outside of the box.

“Chasing The Gate (Searching For Deanne)” reflects upon feelings of anxiety, depression, and glimmers of hope as it highlights the disappearance of my best friend and muse, Deanne Hastings, in 2015. Deanne always called me her “Wings” and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. Now she is my “Wings”…my guardian angel. This painting depicts a long and arduous quest to find Deanne and meeting her again one day at the gateway of heaven.

“The Gate Of Alchemy” or “The Gate Of Truth” is a metaphysical and metaphorical structure and the central point of transmutation in Acrylic Alchemy. I created Acrylic Alchemy based on the principal that if I utilize my pain and struggle to create something positive and beautiful, if I learn to love it, it can no longer hurt me. Learn to master your pain. Don’t let it consume you. Embrace the suffering and use your pain for the greater good. There are a lot of people out there that need their “Wings.”

This painting and many more are available at CariniArts.com at affordable prices with worldwide shipping (free on qualified orders) and payment plan options. I also have added a blog with some of my most personal stories. If you like what I do, please check it out and share. I need your shares and referrals to continue living this dream. I can’t do what I do without you.

On The Ground:“Beneath The Wings Of Free Swan (Deanne’s Song)” took me almost three years to get to because I didn’t want to address it or acknowledge it. This is the tribute painting for Deanne Hastings, my best friend and the woman I loved. Deanne disappeared near the border of Washington and Idaho at the end of 2015. She used to call me “Wings” and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. She would always tell me stories about the archangel Michael and say I was her guardian angel, there for her through a number of trying predicaments and loving her unconditionally. This is the one time I was not able to be and I think about it every single day. Now I’m under her wings and this tribute is her swan song as she is finally freed of her cage and hopefully at peace. I love you Deanne.

“The Up-Side of Down” was inspired by a 2009 assault and battery that hospitalized me with multiple facial fractures, severe eye trauma, and a concussion. My signature icon, which I saw flashing in my head during the concussive state, is a key repeating element in this series that represents life growing from death and discovering the positives in negatives.

“Midnight Dancer (Take Me Away)” was the very first painting I ever created for Deanne Hastings, my best friend and the person I loved most in the world. She used to call me her “Wings” and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. Tragically, Deanne went missing in 2015 and has yet to be found. I still think about her every single day and a number of the paintings she inspired were sent to her family for her children to have one day.

This is one of the most valuable pieces I have in my studio. It is the two final postcards of the show I dedicated to her in 2010. If you take a close look, you can read the statement from the show. I came across these in my car long after she disappeared. I was also blessed to come across her handprints on my “10 Year Floor Canvas,” which also now hang in studio so she can continue to be with me as she continues to inspire me and my work. I hope I’m making her proud. I wouldn’t be the man I am today if it wasn’t for her. I love how this photo picks up the reflection of the window likes it’s a window between here and heaven, allowing us to see each other again for just a moment.
