Commencing upon the precipice of homelessness, “The Boy In The Box” follows the rigid geometric structuring of the “The Up-Side Of Down” and represents the perpetual quest for personal freedom and breaking outside of the box. We all create our own boxes and some more than others.
This painting tells a story of creation and the interconnectedness of relationships. If you look closely, you may spot a large figure in the upper right corner and a much smaller figure in the bottom right. The smaller figure is in a state of genesis, feeding and growing from the nourishment and energy of the other.

This painting does does has ties to a specific creation story, referencing Eve being created from the rib of Adam. The female form form was modeled after someone that later came back and vandalized the painting, cutting through it right where Eve’s rib is. I had to patch Eve’s rib and carefully repair it, which I feel added to the symbolism and energy of the painting.

As every story has a past, present, and future, what may at first glimpse appear to be non-objective abstraction is in fact segmentations of energetic imagery interacting and breathing through the boundlessness of space and time. This painting is dedicated to my best friend and muse, Deanne Hastings, who tragically went missing in 2015 and has yet to be found. She once asked me to do a huge painting with a giant set of wings. This is my tribute to her. Deanne always called me her “Wings” but now she is mine and I will do whatever I can to keep her spirit alive with the beauty she inspired.

Year ago I sacrificed one of my paintings “The Transmutation Of Miss-Tere” in an alchemical process of equivalent exchange (video footage available on YouTube). In order to obtain, a sacrifice is always necessary. I saved the remnants of the framework that survived the flames and shaped them in the form of an “A” for “Acrylic Alchemy.” It is floating between two pieces of glass and you can still spot one of the dollar bills that was part of the sacrificed painting. I have not yet had an opportunity to showcase this piece but it is available. Sacrifices of this nature have become a regular part of my work and process.

I think a lot of people think of artists as unorganized and all over the place…but I don’t believe I could be much further from that. Organization and structure are very important parts of my process. This comes down from painting care, preparation, and even the organization of my colors for quick/efficient color mixing and inventory. Healthy habits, behaviors, and rituals find a way to work themselves into every aspect of your life, which is why it’s important to have them. Focus and clearly defined goals go a long way. Not there yet? That’s okay. Take baby steps. You will get there.

A Nest For The White Raven. White ravens are often bullied and pushed out of the nest by the “normal” ravens. I found this story very relatable. We all need a safe place to just be ourselves. We all need a safe place for our nest.

Featured: And Then I Found You Hiding In Plain Sight. Often times in life, what we seek is right in front of us, hiding in plain sight. Sometimes you just have to hold on long enough to notice it.
